The APHA is made up of people from all walks of life who are interested in the Palomino Horse. The Association originally formed at Sydney Royal in 1948 and formerly affiliated with the RAS of NSW in the same year has seen a long and chequered history. 1995 marked the restoration of the original founders goals with the Association restructuring into a formal National body with a Board of Directors elected by the Membership to govern the organisation, and oversee its future growth and direction. The original aims of the Founding fathers have also been re-adopted by the Association so that Palomino Horses and Ponies of all types irrespective of height can be recognised and registered with the Association.
Some current members of the Association have been members of the Association continuously since the early 1950’s and have fully supported the move forward into what is now a highly professional entity servicing owners and breeders of all palomino horses and ponies of all types.
The main aim of the Association is to promote in all possible ways the interest of Breeders and Owners of Palomino Horses and Ponies, and generally assist in the breeding management and development of Palominos in Australia and New Zealand, through national Newsletters, Educational Seminars, and conducting major All Breeds and Palomino Shows.
The Association maintains full breeding records and a database of all palominos registered with the Association in Australia and New Zealand. Lists of persons considered competent to act as Judges of Palominos are maintained by the Association along with a National Examination system to allow aspiring Palomino Judges to acquire accreditation with the Association as a recognised Palomino judge at State & National level.
The Association encourages the promotion of palominos through breeding, exhibition and showing of palominos, collects and publishes information and advertises when and where necessary. Full support is given to show societies throughout Australia who provide Palomino classes for registered Palominos in their show schedules through the donation of ribbons and trophies by the Association.
National Award Schemes are offered to all members who own Palominos no matter what field of competition they are in. This is possible through a Roll of Merit System that allows recognition of individual achievements by Palomino Horses and ponies.
A prestigious “ELITE” status is awarded to special Palomino Stallions and Mares (including foundation Mares) who prove to be outstanding Sires and Dams of Palomino Progeny. The horses awarded “Elite” status are considered to be the best Palomino Producing stock in Australia.
